For suggestions, there's always: www.FoodTV.com
that would really rock my world as i know it.
after i initially left the jws' i did question the whole "is there a god"" especially when you look around and see all the atrocities - the sick sick things happening in your own back yard.then i put it out of my mind and carried on believing in a god.. right now i choose to believe in a god, whether that god be jesus, jehovah, buddha, allah, shiva, it doesn't matter - i'm happy with the idea that there is a spiritual & powerful someone running things.however lately i've been questioning again - so many posters on here that are atheists really make good arguments & i can't reason my way out of it.. why does god keep so quiet?
why not just let us know - tadaaaa i'm here.
However lately I've been questioning again - so many posters on here that are atheists really make good arguments & I can't reason my way out of it.
and those arguments are based on their life experience (and, I suppose, study). However, the old saying "if you want to be successful, hang out with successful people" is also true regarding this topic. Spirtuality / religion is many things to many people. If you want to find out about the existence of God, hang out with people who have had a real experience with the Creator - not always easy to find since they tend to keep the experience to themselves (and why wouldn't they since their experience is just that - their's. They know that debating does nothing to validate the experience.) I totally understand why people would think that we're just on a big blue "marble" floating through space with no rhymn or reason, especially with all the "crap" happening in the world, however that doesn't negate that which is real and positive and yes, unseen. I think most people are playing the game of "Life" using the rules from the game of "Monopoly" - no wonder things don't make sense. my 2 cents.

dear friends.... "happy tuesday!

black hole fries galaxy with radiation.
that's a link btw.
i was reading this and wondered how many 'earths' were completely sterilized?
How many were able to flee, and how many never even saw it coming? What would it be like to be a sentient creature on a planet in that galaxy, and see this coming, but not be able to do anything about it?
Isn't this how SUPERMAN begins...?

end of the world is business as usual for someby ron ferguson.
people forecasting the imminent end of the world used to walk through city streets wearing sandwich boards; today's doomsayers are more likely to be wearing lab coats and talking about climate change.
I remember in the late 60's there was some big push on by some big guru proclaiming the end of the world on a certain date....it was on the news and in the newspapers (which, back then, was a big deal....before cable news and the internet). Well, that weekend came and went, but the big news was how many people went to Vegas to get their last "shot" at life - it was a record.
it's been a while since i've started a post.
some of you may remember me.
i'm writing tonight because i feel like such an outsider at christmas sometimes.
I find that at big Christmas parties I feel like I don't fit in. I'm always afraid I will blow it if there is a sing-a-long. I don't always understand the rules of Secret Santa or Gift Exchange, so I hesitate to participate, and then usually don't.
Don't sweat it.... I've been celebrating Christmas for decades, and I still don't get the "rules" on some of the offices secret santas or gift exchange. It's no "biggy" to go to whoever is coordinating the event and ask for clarification.... really, I do it all the time just to make sure I get it straight. (no one really cares if you need some 'guidance', because you won't be the only one asking)
I'm an atheist who celebrates the secular holiday of Christmas. In our office we adopted a family. I was one of the first to take a tag from the tree and return with a well thought out gift. Maybe it's because it was a chance to give a young child the Christmas gift I never had as a child.
You exemplify one of the "true" meanings of Christmas (giving to those in need) more than do a lot of Christians.... good for you.
The deadline for our adoption is now upon us, and there are still 5 tags remaining on the tree. Some people in our office, who make the highest salaries in the whole organization, and who are very vocal about their fundamental religious beliefs, didn't participate. But they decorate their office, eat the Christmas goodies others bring in, etc. Knowing that they wouldn't volunteer, some of us donated some extra money to our Admin. Assistant, who was going to go out shopping tonight to get these remaining items that nobody else would take responsibility for. I just don't get this.
Sounds typical for some of the "human race" in general - some people step up to the plate, others or observers. Also, it could be that they've shot their wade in donating to other charitible causes.
Today we had a luncheon where all of our managers cooked homemade pasta and served it to the employees. These are the same managers that treat us like crap the rest of the year. Like Bob Cratchet, who was taken a back at Scrooge appearing at his door, I too was leery. What good is it to treat us nicely one day and then go back to being mean and miserly the rest of the year? In good conscience, I just couldn't eat their food. I skipped the luncheon and only showed up for the mandatory meeting. But I just don't get this.
I've done that before....sometimes I think they throw those "celebrations" to ease their own consciences for treating people the way they do. I also think it makes a great statement when you don't buy into it and snub them (done that....hehe).
I don't participate in the gift exchange not only because the rules about drawing numbers, picking, and swapping make no sense, but also because I thought the purpose was to give the person something meaningful. I just don't get this either.
For the most part, giving something meaningful is usually for someone you know well or really like. Office gifts are usually just a "token" of acknowledgment of the Season....nothing cut in stone about those gifts being meaningful.
Sometimes during Christmas I feel like the odd swan.
Don't feel that way....just be yourself and enjoy the Season for the "positives" that you take from it...(like some feel-good music). Christmas means different things to different people. Like I said, your taking a total stranger under your wings to give them a gift is more Christ-like than a lot of things some Christians do this time of year.
Merry Christmas.... Happy Holidays.... Season's Greetings <<<<< take your pick (just have fun!)

i was watching oprah today and a thought crossed my mind... based on the recent sexual assault case in sa at her school, and her reaction to that situation, this is obviously an issue close to her heart, so wouldn't her show be a perfect forum for an expose on the jw/pedophilia issue?
What would be a better "play" to get the show under consideration would be to generalize it - religions that have abuse issues. If the JWs were one of a few it would not be singleing them out and no one can point fingers about bashing one religion. Also, the rank and file JWs might be more open to watching, yet they would have a lot to ponder when they would show the JW segment
just a thought
any suggestions?
i'm going mainly out of curiousity.
i've already moved on in my life.
Do you think wearing a priest's collar might be too "over-the-top" ..... just a thought
check out this website...it turns out i can take on 27. sounds like some bad b movie.. http://www.howmanyfiveyearoldscouldyoutakeinafight.com/.
.
I took the survey.... I could take on 14 five year olds......hmmm, now where can I find them? I must have scored lower than you with the question regarding if I thought it was morally right to throw a kid at another one.... I said "no"... I'll have to rethink that one.
